Worship at Saighton

Collective Worship at Saighton Church of England Primary School and Pre-School.

“Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the LORD is God. It is He, who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.”

Psalm 100

Collective Worship is the heartbeat of school life here at Saighton.

As a church school, the Christian ethos of loving God and loving one another is an integral part of everything we do.  Collective Worship at Saighton offers the whole school community a focal point each day, when we meet and explore how we, as a school, flourish together and live life in all its fullness, just as God intended. Our daily act of Christian worship supports the Christian distinctiveness of our school and promotes our Christian vision and values.

Our weekly structure of collective worship is as follows:

Monday

‘Open the Book’ visit and share a new Bible story with us each week.  Children are invited to participate through drama and singing.

Tuesday

Worship is led by the Head teacher and broadly follows ‘A Teacher’s Dozen’ which explores Bible stories through a SEAL lens.  In addition Faith at Home and No Outsiders materials are used as appropriate to the life of the school and in response to learning or outside events that have impacted the children.

Wednesday

Rev Jules from our local parish church visits us and shares stories and prayers with us.

Thursday

Singing Worship – the children choose and sing a wide range of worship songs, and use the opportunity to learn new ones as well.  Worship concludes with a prayer and time for reflection.

Friday

Celebration Worship: an opportunity to “Life in all its fullness.” Achievements both in and out of school are recognized and celebrated with each class awarding a star of the week, the presentation of the Head’s award – usually given for Christian value – and external achievements celebrated. Worship concludes with time for prayer and reflection.

Our children are active participants in worship; choosing and leading prayers and songs, taking part in dramas, singing, discussing and praying.

What our children say about Collective Worship at Saighton:

“I love learning new worship songs. I like to explore what they are all about.”

“I like when we talk and explore different stories and topics with Mrs Dawson.  It really makes me think.”

“Acting out the Bible stories with Open the Book is always good fun.”

“I like when we are all together, including pre-school.  It feels like we are one big school family.”

In addition to our daily acts of worship, special services are held in the churches of the benefice and Chester Cathedral.  These include a Harvest Festival at St Mary’s Church, Bruera and Christmas, Easter and Leaver’s Services at St John the Baptist Church, Aldford.  Family members, along with members of the local community, are invited to join us for these special acts of worship.
